I’m going to be really honest here guys:
I didn’t like the Fargo finale.
Sure, there were some parts I liked - but overall, something was missing that I cannot place my finger on. Lorne’s death was utterly anticlimatic and just not good enough for such an interesting character (and he was completely taken out by the wrong person in every possible way), Lester’s (thank GOD he died!) was as pathetic as himself (which was what I was expecting…But still. I mean, just cutting to Lester two weeks later so abruptly and him running…Ugh). It was utterly horrid that Molly didn’t truly get a showdown with either of them after all that hard work, that thinking, that solving, that obsession, that dedication… and it was just so wrong that Gus got the glory and killed Lorne. Yes, the Coen brothers were going for the animal motif (Gus the animal control officer/Lorne the symbolic wolf) but it did not work and completely took away from everything that Molly worked so hard for. And where did Mr. Wrench go to? Seriously, why make it such a point to show that scene with Lorne and him in the hospital and have to lead up to nothing? Where is the resolution? What happened to Lester’s brother-in-law? WHERE IS MY GODDAMN WOODCHIPPER?
This episode was somewhat…Dull. Lifeless. Rushed. Bleak. It was miles away from what I envisioned, what I’d hoped for. It just seemed such a letdown for such a superb series that was so gripping from the start.
I’m glad we got to see how it ended, but I wish it had played out differently. In fact, I actually prefer the multiple ways I imagined the finale than this. I prefer the multiple ways others had envisioned the finale.
I know this is the Coen brothers’ style, and I’ve liked it in their other movies. But for a series with rich, develops characters and the time and episodes to write them out and shape them up - their style didn’t do the ending justice. It fell completely flat.
I feel like I got a sandwich without any filling; just plain old bread.
I’m disappointed. Very.
